Douglas E. Turnbull | Cara Clairman | Gord Miller | Alan Nymark

Mr. Douglas E. Turnbull, ICD.D

Douglas Turnbull is Deputy Chairman, TD Securities Inc. Mr. Turnbull has 35 years of experience in fixed income capital markets, M&A and advisory roles in Canada, New York and Tokyo. He has acted for government, corporate, infrastructure and public sector clients on numerous public and private market transactions. Mr. Turnbull has advised and spoken publicly on various topics related to capital markets, debt management, credit ratings, provincial budgets, infrastructure financings and privatizations. He is a member of the Ontario Infrastructure Minister’s “Places to Grow” Advisory Committee, Board of Directors of Metrolinx, and Co-Chairs the Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC)-Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Working Group on Natural Resources Development. Mr. Turnbull is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (Economics) and the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto (Institute of Corporate Directors, Directors Education Program).

Cara Clairman

Cara Clairman is President and CEO of Plug’n Drive, a non-profit that is accelerating the deployment of EVs to maximize their environmental and economic benefits. Cara has 20 years of experience working in the environmental and sustainability fields, including 12 years working at Ontario Power Generation, initially as OPG’s environmental lawyer and later in the role Vice President of Sustainable Development. Prior to joining OPG, Cara spent five years practicing environmental law with the Torys law firm. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall and a Masters in Environmental Studies from York University, as well as an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from Queen’s University.

Gord Miller

Gord Miller is an ecologist and environmental policy analyst with many years of experience. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Guelph and has worked in the manufacturing industry and consulting business as well as in academia as a professor. However most of his career has been spent in the public sector starting as a scientist with the Ministry of the Environment and concluding his career by serving three five year terms as Ontario’s Environmental Commissioner. In that role he was an independent Officer of the Legislative Assembly overseeing and critically evaluating government decision-making on the environment, climate change and energy conservation. Gord retired from that role in May of 2015.

Alan Nymark

Alan Nymark served as Deputy Minister in several federal government departments including Environment Canada, Canada Customs and Revenue, Human Resources and Social Development Canada and as Associate Deputy Minister of Health Canada. He held senior economic management positions at Finance Canada, Industry Canada and the Privy Council Office. Mr. Nymark was a senior principal in negotiations for Canada as Deputy Secretary for Federal Provincial Relations, Assistant Chief Negotiator for Canada-USA Free Trade Agreement and NAFTA and Chief Negotiator for Climate Change.
Trained in economics at Queen’s University and The London School of Economics and Political Science, he also worked in the early part of his career at the IMF, the Royal Bank of Canada, and the Royal Commission on the Economic Union and Development Prospects for Canada.
Mr. Nymark has served on numerous boards of directors.
Currently, Mr. Nymark consults widely in the areas of growth and sustainability. He serves on the Steering Committee of Sustainable Prosperity, a policy and research think-tank at the University of Ottawa. He is Chairman of The Centre for the Study of Living Standards, and Chairman of The Government of Canada Audit Committee.
